Anyone know if there is a way to save your deleted journals? :(

Never mind, I found the fix -- but I'm leaving this up anyway, apparently we actually have to post once in awhile or something?? Pfffft.

To the Canadians on my friends list, if I could ask you to consider donating to a very good cause. Friends of Veterans Canada is a registered charity raising money to finance the creation of an Online Veterans Video Library. They are interviewing as many Canadian WWII, Korean and peacekeeping war vets as they can to document their war experiences. Many of these veterans have never spoken of their service before. And they are aging. The last remaining Canadian WWI veteran passed away this year, and IDK, I just find that terribly sad and worrying. I think it's important that we do everything we can to ensure our children understand and respect/appreciate the sacrifices made, the physical and mental toll war takes, the enormous significance of those events. This charity's work is a great way to do that.

They have raised more than $50,000 of the $75,000 they need to fund the work, so any size donation is a help and brings them closer to their goal. You can donate at any TD Canada Trust bank, or online using PayPal (the link for which is available on the website).

Thanks everyone. ♥

This is the friending post

Jan. 3rd, 2010 | 10:02 am

If you are friending me for fic and/or graphics, I have a fandom journal at soulofthevine. I am not currently friending anyone as I am going through a downsize, so my apologies for that. This journal is locked and is a mix of personal stuff and fandom stuff.

If you are hoping to contact me about membership at dmhgficexchange, please, kindly stop right now and read the community's userinfo closely. It's all there, I promise. I won't be able to give you membership until you've gone through that process anyway, so if you send me an email or message asking to be a member, all I will do is point you there. Thanks.

I don`t want to forget to do this, so it`s going up early. Just a short Canadian-centric Remembrance Day picspam in leiu of words.

Hey sexy. What's up.

I may do a friends cut. Actually, I am going to do one. I have never ever ever done one before, and I don't really WANT to, but dude, my friends list is out of control (for me). I just need a downsize for my own sake. I'm sure I'll confuse people and mix names up and cut some users I don't mean to cut, but I will happily add each and every person back who wants to stay friends. I mean it. So if you see your name cut, just send a message to my LJ inbox and give me a stern talking to, and we'll become friends all over again. And just remember that it's not you, it's me, I swear.

geewhiz - got your email, am thinking it over, and did you receive my MO yet?

edit: yeah, that was the most imprecise, impulsive f-cut ever, so if you think you should still be there -- you probably should. thanks for understanding, please send me a msg soon, thx!

Hope all my eljay friends in Australia and their families are safe and sound. ♥

Oh man. I've been slagging this movie for a few months (Passchendaele -- Canadians know what I'm talking about), mostly because it irritated Steve so much, but we made a deal that I would watch it with him if he watched Pan's Labyrinth with me which is only my most favourite movie of all time (sob), and since we made a deal, I knew at some point I had to follow through. I did so this weekend.

did he do what i think he didCollapse )

wait one more thing

oh, oh, oh, on the subject of grey's anatomy, spoileryCollapse )

YES, thankfully, dmhgficexchange has nearly finished its latest round, save for a reviewer thingy we are tacking on the end because the reviews haven't really been there lately. You know, like a blitz kind of thing. As always, I am astonished at the quality of gifts we received but I haven't had a lot of time to read/view them yet. I've seen all the art and some of the more recent gifts, but I still have to read Rizzle's and sandi_wandi's and streetscribbles' and floorcoaster's, oh, and I haven't read vexia's or reetinkerbell's (those are just the ones off the top of my head too). So I've got a lot left, and I want to save those for a day when I can really dedicate myself to them.

That said, there are a couple I need to rec immediately because I kind of flailed around and choked when I read them, they were that good. It was a three or four way tie.

Leap Year by basicaquatics
(Attica, YES, omg, you should be proud of this one. It is my favourite of yours, and honestly, it really bothered me that it ended so abruptly. I needed more. Serious case of writer envy here!)

Operation Cheer Up Granger (But Don't Die Trying) by peskywhistpaw
(This was SO funny . I had to stop myself and comment several times because I laughed so much. I think it's an instant classic. And I hate that term, but that's the closest thing I can think of to describe this fic. It is just so awesome.)

Stone Dragons by gravidy
(It's never hard to recommend something by gravidy, and this fic was such a smart, compelling read, but I am recommending it in particular because of the things it does that I've never seen done in the fandom before. She always manages to find that empty hole to wedge open. Fantastic story.)

The Nothing Fights by somandalicious
(I didn't get this one at first. When I did, I was immediately overcome with writer envy. And when it was over, I felt like the author must have a really great boyfriend or husband or partner because the kind of love she portrayed was just so familiar to me. I'm not sure why it's considered satire though. It's really not.)

Oh, and in case you are curious which one was mine.

Title: To Cease Upon the Midnight* by eucalyptus for andbehinddoor47
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Was it a vision, or a waking dream? Draco struggles to tell the difference.
* Recced by hogwarts_today; nominated at dramione_awards! AKJFKDJF.

This is not the fic I thought I would submit. It took me ages to get it in because I completely switched gears halfway through the writing period, but now that it is, I like it. I tried to use a lot of the new canon. And oh, about the ending? I wanted something that was a little fatalistic, that was based on my idea that the best thing that could happen to Draco is for him to do it all over again, but that was also a reference to the poem the fic was loosely based on and titled after. If you have read and studied Keats' Ode to a Nightingale, and if you read the ending carefully, you should see that the ending doesn't necessarily have to be what it is. You are free to interpret it another way, and that was my intention. In a way, it is more fitting than I thought it would be, but it is probably not a good thing to have to explain your ending, no matter how clever you think it is! XP

Please take part in our Fun, Fabulous, Frenzied Feedback Fiesta! YOU WILL EXPLODE WITH THE FUN & FABULOUS-NESS OF IT ALL.

I come bearing a Roswell fic rec for all the Cliffhanger fans on my flist. I am basically spamming everyone I know about this story. It's pretty much amazing.

Oh, also, the writer also writes Harry/Hermione and I know many of you out there are fans of that pairing, so check out her other stories as well, you won't be disappointed. :)

Three Four Five Six

So. How about that Canadian dollar?

And when will the bleeding car manufacturers drop their freaking prices, because I'm in the market and there's no reason why we're still paying 20-30% higher. For cars made HERE, no less!

Argh, people. Super argh.
